Open Position: BRAG Event Director

Are you passionate about cycling and event management? Join us as our Event Director and lead the planning, coordination, and execution of our cycling events, including Big BRAG, Spring Tune-up, and Winter Ride, among others. In this role, you will ensure our events are successful and memorable for all participants by working closely with host towns, sponsors, and stakeholders to enhance the event experience and boost ridership.

Position Summary:

The Event Director will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of cycling events, ensuring they are successful and memorable for all participants. This role involves working closely with host towns, sponsors, and various stakeholders to enhance the event experience and increase ridership. Events include: Big BRAG, Spring Tune-up, Winter Ride, and other Georgia based rides to be determined. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Event Planning and Coordination:
  • Develop and execute comprehensive event plans for each cycling event.
  • Manage event logistics including route planning, permits, safety measures, and volunteer coordination.
  • Coordinate with vendors, sponsors, and partners to ensure all event needs are met.
  • Seek, hire, and lead 1099 contractors for assistance in event execution. 
  1. Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with host towns, local authorities, and community organizations.
  • Negotiate agreements and contracts with host towns and sponsors.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to keep them informed and engaged.
  1. Event Expansion and Innovation:
  • Identify opportunities to introduce new riding events and activities to enhance participant experience.
  • Develop strategies to increase event participation and community engagement.
  • Implement innovative ideas to improve the overall quality and appeal of events.
  1. Marketing and Promotion:
  • Work with the marketing team to promote events through various channels including social media, email campaigns, and traditional media.
  • Distribute promotional materials in person to attract participants and sponsors.
  • Engage with cycling communities to build awareness and excitement around events.
  1. Budget Management:
  • In conjunction with the Executive director, monitor event budgets, ensuring cost-effective implementation of events.
  • Monitor expenses and revenues to ensure financial goals are met.
  • Seek sponsorship and funding opportunities to support event initiatives.
  1. On-Site Event Management:
  • Oversee event setup, execution, and teardown to ensure smooth operations.
  • Address and resolve any issues that arise during events promptly and efficiently.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed and participant safety is prioritized.
  1. Post-Event Evaluation:
  • Conduct post-event evaluations to gather feedback from participants, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Analyze event performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare comprehensive event reports and present findings to senior management.
  • Primarily a work from home position with weekly in person meetings with other BRAG Staff. 
  • Some night and weekend work is required during events. Some travel is required to prepare for events and during events:
    • One week surrounding the flagship, Big BRAG 
    • One week surrounding RAGBRAI
    • Two weeks surrounding Winter Ride
    • Four days surrounding Spring TuneUp
    • One to two weeks for route planning

Minimum qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Proven experience in organizing and managing large-scale events, preferably cycling or sports events.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Passion for cycling and understanding of cycling culture and community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event management software.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
