U.S. 441 Heritage Highway passes through downtown Clarkesville, named in honor of General John C. Clark, the son of the revolutionary hero and governor of Georgia, Elijah Clarke. The downtown is bustling with antiques, art & collectibles shops, dining for all tastes, a theater and other interesting stores. Along Scenic 197, a beautiful and scenic driving route from Clarkesville to Lake Burton, must stops are Mark of the Potter, Burton Emporium and Gallery, the Cottage Garden, and LaPrade's Marina. The Soque River is outstanding for fly-fishing.
